Grand Central Terminal, NYC
Conceptual Proposal

The photographs of sunrays streaming through the windows of Grand Central Terminal are some of the most iconic in New York City history. The natural lighting condition that made these images possible no longer occurs because tall buildings now block out the sun.

We propose a lighting installation to simulate this phenomena. A custom lensed LED array is mounted outside of the terminal windows. This is paired with atmospheric units inside the terminal.

SUNRAY will restore the architects’ original intent and give New Yorkers a rare glimpse of the winter sun.
