ARBOR welcomes visitors to the new Indianapolis general hospital with trees made entirely of light. This work displays optically accurate shadows of native trees in the elevator lobbies of the new hospital. The images display true depth of field because of the unique layering technique developed specifically for this project. The tree shadows imply the presence of real trees just beyond the glass surface of the light boxes. ARBOR acts as an artwork, integrated wayfinding symbol and ambient light source. This installation was the first hospital artwork to be recognized by The Americans for the Arts Public Art Network Year in Review.
